Jovovich actually has a tricky role - not to be mistaken for trip-hop artist Tricky, who also has a role here - with some subtle twists, but she does it better than most models-turned-actresses may have. I can imagine Willis calling Demi Moore after a long day's shooting and saying that he had no idea what was going on. While not as influential as say Blade Runner, it's hard to believe that the chase through the flying traffic of Coruscant wasn't partially inspired by T5E - which itself was drawn from film designer Jean 'Moebius' Giraud's own comic work.
What makes The Fifth Element a fan favorite isn't really the carefully plotted story or the pithy dialogue or even the great song and dance numbers - it's Milla Jovavich dressed in Ace bandages that fuels the demand for bigger and better editions of this movie!!! Seriously, T5E, is simply a hunk of bright, colorful sci-fi fun with cool art direction and wild costumes by Madonna clothier Jean-Paul Gaultier. Fortunately for Leeloo and the Universe, Korben is a…wait for it…a former ace military commando, so he's more than capable for the challenges at hand. Of course, Evil can't exist without a sidekick and that would be freaky arms merchant Zorg (Gary Oldman in a more restrained performance than he delivered in Leon.) How he hooked up with Evil isn't made clear, but I'd have to guess some sort of Evil Friendster was involved. When Leeloo tells them they need to get to the floating cruise hotel, Fhloston Paradise, she and Korben fly there accompanied by Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker), an obnoxious DJ who's like a cross between Prince and, well, Chris Tucker.
When cornered by flying cop cars, she pulls an Anakin Skywalker swan dive and crashes into the flying cab of Hudson Hawk… er… Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) who helps her escape and takes her to priest Ash… darn it… Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm), one of an eternal line of clerics sworn to protect and assist the Fifth Element. This "perfect being" is Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) and after she escapes from the lab, she finds herself walking on a ledge in the prototype for downtown Coruscant. Or is it? From a hunk of claw salvaged from the wreckage, Earth scientists are able to regenerate the entire body and it turns out to look like the girl from Return to the Blue Lagoon if she worked at Hot Topic to support her Manic Panic habit.

When the Mondoshawan return to bring the stones plus the Fifth Element (a sarcophagus that stands in the middle of the stones) to Earth, they're attacked by mercenary dog men, the Mangalores, who destroy the ship, leaving Earth defenseless.
